About Us
Our Story
Kula Hawaiian Kitchen is a family-owned restaurant created by Chris and Ayako, who fell in love with Hawaiian comfort food while living in Hawaii. Chris graduated from high school there, and together—often with their golden retriever Kona by their side—they explored Oahu’s local favorites. When they moved to California’s Central Coast to open a winery in 2016, they missed the healthy, flavorful dishes that had become a part of their daily lives in Hawaii. Determined to share that special aloha spirit, they brought Kula Hawaiian Kitchen to Atascadero, offering a warm, welcoming spot to enjoy the tastes and traditions that first captured their hearts.
Kula is a Hawaiian word that means "Gold" or "Golden." It represents the golden retrievers that have been a part of Chris and Ayako's lives since their first Golden Retriever, Kona.
